Carol Vorderman
February 2, 2001
Born on Christmas Eve 1959, in Bedford, the family relocated early in her life and she attended the Blessed Edward Jones Catholic High School in Rhyl, North Wales, before going on to Cambridge University where she got her degree in civil engineering. She had just started her traineeship in a frozen food distributors when her mother spotted an advert for a resident mathematics expert on Countdown, she got the job, and became the first female presenter to appear on the newly launched Channel 4.

Naval Officer and Rugby International
In her private life things haven't gone quite so smoothly, she first got married when she was 24 to Chris Mather, a naval officer and former rugby league international, it lasted eighteen months.
Paddy King, a management consultant she married in May 1990, fared a little better and their marriage, Carol's second, lasted ten years. They have recently split but remain good friends and although they are now both with new partners they have yet to divorce and still share their home in Maidenhead along with her mother Jean. They have two children together, Cameron and Katie.
In Hotel Rooms

According to The Mail, Carol has allegedly been meeting the new man in her life, Mirror journalist Des Kelly, in hotel rooms for over a year, they first met at The Mirror newspapers Christmas party in 1999. Carol was attending as she'd just been invited to write a regular Internet column for the paper and was in high spirits dressed in tight leather trousers and a bosom revealing top.
Diets and Disagreements
February 4, 2001Back to the top
Carol was in the press recently following her controversial comments against the government's plans to provide every child in school with Internet access and an e-mail address. Speaking at a seminar in the House of Lords she urged well known companies such as Microsoft and Yahoo! to clamp down on perverts and paedophiles and to take responsibility for the content and images they allow to be purveyed. She said that unless the children were given the highest possible protection the scheme should be scrapped.
Personally I think she's right but maybe guilty of a little scare mongering, surely they can install a filter and staff can monitor activity. Have your say!
On a lighter note Carol has been competing with Vanessa Feltz for press attention as they have both launched diet plans recently. Carol's is an excellent short term detox plan that aims to clear your body of toxins by following a strict diet for a few weeks at a time, and Vanessa's isn't.
Carol says she has never felt better and a friend said 'she looks younger now than she did 10 years ago'.

Detoxing Heads November 29, 2001Back to the top
It's now nearly a year later and Carol is still detoxing and turning heads, coming a respectful 122nd in the Maxim 1000 sexiest women poll and capturing the cameramans attention at the TVAwards in October with a stunning fifties film star look utilising hair extensions ala Betty Boo (pics - 1 | 2 | 3)
Apart from co-hosting Countdown, which has now been extended to 45 minutes, Carol has also hosted an Emmerdale Special, another series of Stars And Their Lives and featured in Stars In Their Dressing Rooms.
With books, videos, TV appearances and her continuing advertising commitments (pics - 1 | 2) Carol has improved her ranking in The Times Pay List coming in at # 246 (=306 last year) with estimated yearly earnings of £2.7million.
